Review, King Creosote, Flick the V’s

King Creosote’s new album, ‘Flick the Vs’, is the latest album bought on a whim from itunes.

I’ve always been more of a Malcolm Middleton / Arab Strap man to be honest, and have been listening to Malcolm’s latest, the superb ‘Waxing Gibbous’ an awful lot recently. Especially ‘Follow Me’, in which he’s written a song that could be about me (although in all fairness, it could be about most blokes I know). We’re actually saw him on Sunday at King Tuts, and I’ve posted a review earlier. Work on Monday, not so much fun.
Anyway, this is about King Creosote.
The first song, ‘If You Want This, You Can Have This’ took me a bit by surprise. It’s quite a departure from the sound I’ve always associated him with, being quite electronic / experimental. It’s great though, and really gets you in the mood for the rest of the album. The second number, ’2 Frocks at a Wedding’ is equally brilliant, and the third ‘Camels Swapped for Wives’ has some of the best (and most heartfelt) lyrics I’ve ever heard.

Simply beautiful. I’m not actually a fan of track 4, ‘No Way She Exists, to be honest, but after that it picks up the pace again – Rims is particularly noteable imho but everything else offers something different – most of it good.

All in all it’s well worth the £7.99 or whatever it was on itunes. ‘Camels Swapped for Wives’ as I said, is an astonishing piece of music and could easily bring a tear to the eye
